The "Friends of the Western Balkans" group is urging a renewed commitment to the European Union (EU) integration process for the Western Balkans region. They emphasize the need for a clear and accelerated accession process with specific steps until 2024, based on fair conditionality and merit. Given destabilizing factors such as third-party influence, hybrid threats, and disinformation, they propose enhanced cooperation in the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). This includes regular meetings, increased EU presence in the region, and dialogue on issues such as human rights, cybersecurity, and strategic communication. The agenda also involves strengthening diplomatic ties, training programs for diplomats, and support for the region's security and defense capabilities. The ultimate goal is to counter external pressures and narratives incompatible with EU values while fostering alignment with EU policies.
