Someone is keeping an eye on MEPs – The European Parliament on Wednesday urged members of its defence subcommittee to have their mobile phones checked for spyware after traces of hacking were found on two devices. Several reports, the latest published in December, have shown that precautions against this type of attack are woefully inadequate. A danger that is as real as ever, given that elections are due in June and the risk of interference is not just a risk

Thank you, Poland – One of the names most often bandied about as the new defence commissioner (a role that would be created from scratch) is that of Radosław Sikorski, Poland’s current foreign minister. Former journalist, 20 years’ experience in politics and a friend of the United States (he was the one who wrote a tweet, then deleted, saying “Thank you, USA” after the Nord Stream 2 sabotage in 2022): a respectable CV for a position that is likely to be even less relevant than the High Representative for Foreign Affairs

Now it’s official – Ursula von der Leyen will run for the leadership of the Commission: a candidacy that will be enshrined at the EPP congress in Bucharest. In spite of the advance of the far-right throughout Europe, the EPP, instead of trying to curb the phenomenon by nominating an innovative figure, opts for the usual safe. And the poor girl will be a candidate against herself, since she will have to dismantle all the waffle provided by her old warhorse: the Green Deal. She will then push the idea of having a new commissioner in charge of defense. But until the treaties are reformed, we risk having another unemployed person as head of a foreign policy that does not really exist

In Brussels there’s a new stone guest – After his controversial words about Nato and Russia, the defence ministers meeting in Brussels could only think of Donald Trump. But maybe a Europe left alone could be the best shock therapy against its possible disintegration. His words are an aid to the sleepwalkers living in the bubble

Not even a casual mention – Europe is not named at all in Tucker Carlson’s interview with Vladimir Putin. A sign that it is seen internationally only as an emanation of the United States in the Old Continent, especially by the Deep State entrenched in the Pentagon, which now seems ready to return to dialogue with the Kremlin in the face of the possible election of Donald Trump

Bubblereport #13 – Farmers’ anger is rampant throughout Europe, and this week it also arrived in Strasbourg at the plenary session. About a hundred tractors blocked the entrance to the Euro Chamber while Lady Ursula and Charles Michel were in the chamber. Who knows what they will come up with to quell the protests?  One thing is certain: for once Europe has only one voice, that of the farmers!

Big manoeuvres on the horizon – Viktor Orban finally greenlights the 50 billion dollar aid for Ukraine. The negotiations have been successful (for him) and here are the first results: after the elections, the Fidesz leader will join the ECR with Marine Le Pen in an attempt to form a majority that excludes the Socialists and includes Renew and the EPP. Moscow’s man in Europe can now rest easy, despite some growing pressure to ratify Sweden’s NATO bid

An undigested goulash -The defeated Polish Mateusz Morawiecki opens ECR’s door to Putin and the Chinese’s best friend in Europe: Viktor Orban and his 12 non-inscrits MEP (expelled from EPP in 2021). How will Meloni and comrade Abascal take it?

You can’t make this stuff up – Charles Michel announces that he will not run in the next European elections, ending his mandate at the European Council: Mario Draghi’s candidacy has been burnt, while the chances of seeing Sànchez as his successor are increasing. Michel made the announcement on Facebook, but then decided to block comments. Indeed, there are many who have not understood the motives behind his moves: can one man consistently make strategic mistakes of this magnitude?

The kings of state aid – Germany and France together account for almost 80% of Europe’s €672 billion approved programmes in 2022, despite representing just over 42% of the bloc’s GDP. A significant discrepancy that leaves 25 of the EU’s 27 countries behind. Italy comes third, receiving around 8% of the subsidies, even though its industrial production is higher than that of France (16% compared to 11%). So much for the free market!

Bubblereport #12 – Dombrovskis in Brussels is considered a kapo of the EU economy, a faithful enforcer of the austerity line imposed for years by Germany on the rest of Europe. A reputation that the former Latvian prime minister had begun to earn at home, where in the five years of his government (2009-2014), he imposed harsh measures forcing more than 250,000 Latvians to emigrate abroad to escape poverty

Send them to landfill! – Ratification of a European Commission proposal to ” enhance the circularity of the automotive sector” seems imminent. If it is approved by governments in its current form, some 3.8 million European citizens would receive a letter at home giving them a deadline to scrap their cars. Long before the famous year 2035. More green euro nonsense

Macron invented everything to climb back up the slope from the political fragility into which he has plunged, coming up with more than the devil to get Meloni in trouble, such as when he proposed Draghi for the Council presidency to limit the Italian Government’s room for maneuver in the selection of top EU jobs. But now, the only one able to mediate with the Hungarian mean ogre (Orban) over the support of Ukraine is Meloni, who remains, therefore, central despite Macron’s willingness
